ABOUT IGNOU
Indira Gandhi National Open University
is today virtually a household name. With its headquarters located
on 150 acres of verdant land in the south of Delhi and a network
of regional study centres all over the country, the University
has brought higher education to the doorsteps of a vast number
of people. IGNOU has over 600,000 students today, when it had
only 20,000 students to begin with and yet the desire to reach
the unreached continues. Most recently the University has set
up a project to bring quality programmes even to the interiors of the North East.
The University now offers 62 programmes. From its inception, IGNOU
has been endeavoring to develop its own programme profile which
is a mix of academic as well as continuing and extension programmes.
While the University is also offering traditional degree programmes,
efforts have been made to develop a vast number of programmes
ranging from the purely knowledge-based to the more technical/vocational,
from higher PhD degree to the lower end competency certificates,
and from professional development to more general awareness modules.
The university is serviced by an effective networking of 44 Regional
and 627 Study Centres all over the country. State-of-the-art telecommunication
system have further in reaching out to hitherto unreached sections
of society. Quality and equity have been the principles underlying
all our endeavors.
